Public Transportation
Trains
The Nederlandse Spoorwegen (www.ns.nl) is the national train company. NS offers season tickets and discounts for off-peak travel (Voordeelurenabonnement) including a kortingskaart (‘discount card’) which takes 40% off the price of tickets, not only for you but for up to three other people travelling with you. This only costs € 55 a year, and it has an OV-chipkaart built in. To find out the best deal for you, visit an NS counter and talk to any representative. Tickets are checked regularly and fines are about a minimum of € 40. You save 50 eurocents through purchasing your train ticket from the ticket machines (also in English) rather than at the counter. You can also buy day tickets in supermarkets that you can travel through the country for €13.99.
Post Office
Post offices have orange signs marked ‘Postkantoor’. Most of the post offices are situated in small shops where you buy cards, tobacco, magazines etc.
